I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the reason for turning Katherine human. If you think about it giving Katherine the cure makes no sense since she can never be a main character because of Nina’s filming schedule for playing Elena.The whole season was about the cure and they gave it to a character who’s in about 5 episodes of the year?

"Some people disliked the line, but I personally think “I’m not sorry I met you” is the best thing Elena could have said to Damon.
